If you didn’t know it already, the days of the cheap and cheerful Civic are completely over. Base models run almost $20k and can be optioned all the way up to almost $30k, so a new top trim level is going to be somewhere above that. Would you pay WRX STi money for the new Type-R?

Between $30,000 and $35,000.

For 30k I’ll do what I’ve done for my last 2 cars but a massively deprecated luxury car with the CarMax warranty.

How long before someone unironically buys one “just to piss off the haters and purists?” Always a great reason to make a major purpose.

I think that is hideous. In fact, no could even pay _me_ to drive it. I’d rather walk I find it that ugly.

Nah. I don’t think the type R would would get my interest at any reasonable price. I really don’t see any value over a 3 year old focus ST with some mods. Sure NVH, interior features etc... But if I was wanting that I wouldn’t be buying a type R at all.

The cool thing about previous type R’s was all the dumb mods gear heads usually make, (CAI, exhaust, shocks, bracing, poly bushings etc) were done and vetted by professionals rather than a 20 year old on a forum.

In Finland the starting price for the current Type-R is 53950USD which is quite a lot. They sell really slowly here. The new ones are likely going to be even more expensive. I´m too poor for new cars so I might look for one earliest in 15 years or so.

in canada, its going to be a 50K car. just like a fully loaded FoRS, GoRf, STI...

each and every single one of which I think is over priced as all hell. 50 fucking K for a civic? a focus?!?!

The only one that can even REMOTELY think about charging that kind of coin is the golf R, and thats just because its an Audi S3 with a stick in a hatch back body.

But the bullies at the country club with laugh at you for driving an ‘old’ luxury car.

Kinja'd!!!

“Oh dear, here comes [My X-type] and his positively decrepit 2010 Cheyenne. Being seen in a...*shudder*... used car. How does he manage the embarrassment?”

“Indeed. The other morning I caught my concierge perusing a series of offensive articles by one who calls himself ‘Tavarish’. They’re all about avoiding buying new rubbish cars in exchange for used luxury goods.”

“Why I never! Why can’t the poors just know their place and stick to buying their Pontiacs and Edsels, or whatever brand of refuse vehicles they consume?”

Absolutely no interest in this car. I’m not even sure 16 year old me would’ve liked this car. If someone gave me this car, I would consider buying a mask before driving it.

nope, those are just our prices.

Kinja'd!!!

STI sport pack: 45K starting
FoRS: 47K starting
GoRf: 40K starting. throw in a couple of options here and there on any of them, add 13% tax on it and bam, there is your 50K performance hatchback.

I wont be shocked if the civic isnt far off from this.

I don’t get it. How is everyone getting away with charging new E class money for a bloody Civic/Focus/Mustang/Impretzel? I like all those cars, but $50k is totally outrageous. Maybe it’s because the market volume is really low?

Kinja'd!!! bob and john > PS9

LOL have you seen what a new E-class is up here?

the BASE BASE BASE sedan starts at 62K. (4 cylinder only...we dont get a 6 cylinder sedan)

the wagon starts at 77 (v6 only...or the AMG. which, btw, the amg starts at 116K)

Well fuck then, I guess if you don’t make six figures in Canada you can get a buss pass and GTFAC. How are people affording cars up there? I know down here in florida if Civics and Focuses(Foci?) went for $50k, there’d be no traffic anywhere down here.

But every review I’ve seen points out that as a drivers car(the thing that people who buy these care about), the FoRS is the better car.

Kinja'd!!!0

thats the thing.

people dont. th 1% or immigrants with money from other countrys are the ones with the nice cars.

everyone is either financing or buying used.

hell, my parents are both relatively well off engineers (6 figures, BOTH OF THEM) and what do they choose to drive?

dad has the ONE new car he has EVER bought in his life, a 2010 Audi A3 TDI....now has 200K km on it. we left yet to see what will happen to it thanks to dieselgate.

mom has a used 08 IS250 with 100K km on it and 3 accidents under its belt.

add to that the frankly INSANE insurance rates (lol, 2500/year to insure a mid 40s woman on an IS250 AWD??? get fucked) and you quickly find out why everyone around here is rolling in a 10 year old civic or leasing something.

Which is weird, because they had two GT350's with no markup, when they came out.

The original Integra Type-R sold at an inflation-adjusted $35,000, so I think that’s the about where I hope it’ll sticker, especially since it’s not following the whole “essence of racing distilled for the road” concept anymore. More so if it’s FWD. $40,000 + markup for a FoRS optioned my way is already a tough pill to swallow, but I wouldn’t pay that money for a FWD version.

Maybe it’s the year in the Camry or I’m just maturing in my tastes, but it’s too busy for me. I’m more inclined to take my money to the Mazda dealer and walk out with a Miata Club and keep the extra $7,000 in my pocket for fuel and servicing.

I’m not as worried about base price.

What’s going to kill them will be ridiculous dealer markups.

If they plan on adding another 5-10k if not more to the sticker, there’s no way I’d be driving a Civic anymore.

I actually like the look of it, even if I am a bit too old for it. Thing is, I can get a GTI starting at just north of $25k, which I think is a much nicer car. Say what you may about the GTI and VW reliability, I went approximately 115,000 trouble free miles before trading mine in. I could see paying in the $20's for this, but north of $30k, and it would be too much in my opinion. I would have to see one in the flesh to make a truely informed decision. But who knows, the average transaction for a new ride is over $30k at this point.
